With the introduction of new provisions contained within the Local Government Legislation Amendment Act 2019, local governments must prepare a report for each financial year on the training completed by elected members in that financial year.  

The intent is for the local government to report back to the community on what training councillors have undertaken including all training rather than just the Council Member Essentials courses.  

On being elected to Council, all newly elected members are required to complete the prescribed training course within 12 months of being elected, as per the Local Government (Administration)Regulations 1996.  The courses have been developed to provide members with the skills and knowledge to perform their roles as leaders in their district.
