In a combined media release, Minister David Templeman (Culture and the Arts) and Minister Alannah MacTiernan (Regional Development) announced the details of a capsule exhibition of works from the State’s art collection to tour Regional Western Australia.

 “How Did I Get Here?” showcases works from the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) and portrays work from some of the country’s most engaging and accomplished photographic and video artists.    This project is aimed at increasing the capacity of local regional galleries to present a wide and varied collection of works.  In developing arts activity, the project aims to engage local communities and encourages broader conversations around art.

The exhibition will tour seven regional venues.  Katanning Library and Art Gallery will be the first venue to showcase the collection from April 13 – May 11, 2019.    Following Katanning on the exhibition itinerary, “How Did I Get Here?” will tour the following venues:

·   Collie Art Gallery - July 19, 2019 to September 1, 2019;

·   Ningaloo Centre, Exmouth - September 13, 2019 to October 13, 2019;

·   Bunbury Regional Art Gallery - January 17, 2020 to March 1, 2020;

·   Carnarvon Library and Gallery - May 15, 2020 to June 19, 2020;

·   East Pilbara Art Centre - July 3, 2020 to August 9, 2020; and

·   Geraldton Regional Art Centre - August 21, 2020 to September 12, 2020.

Talking about this project, Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman said “For the first time in 20 years, works from the State’s art collection will tour regional Western Australia.  The role the arts play in regional communities cannot be understated.  It supports social, cultural and economic growth.”

Made possible through the Regional Exhibition Touring Boost, the project is managed by the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries, supported by Royalties for Regions and delivered in partnership by ART ON THE MOVE and the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
