Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash

The “Gassy Dash” as known by locals and competitors, is a desert race and is in memory of the late and local identity Neville Brandstater who tragically drowned in the Lyndon River in 1995.  It is a motor sport that pits car against car and bike against bike with the quickets of each to determine who will be crowned ‘King of the River’.The race is situated between the town of Carnarvon and Gascoyne Junction, West Australia and is raced across some of the harshest country in Australia.  The Dash refers to what previously was boats racing down the flooded Gascoyne River however the river rarely flows so bikes and cars replaced the boats.

Comparison has been made between the Dash and the Finke Desert Race. Both races are a true test of machine and competitor, both are races that promote the unique Australian outback. The Dash is a point to point race over a hugely varied landscape, a cross country course extensively consisting of natural desert and outback terrain. In excess of 500km over two days the Dash is long and tough; it is an ultimate challenge.  To read more about this great event visit the Gascoyne Dash website.
