Your Council was pleased to adopt the 2021/22 Budget on 31 August 2021.

“An exciting and busy year lies ahead for the new CEO Andrea Selvey and the Shire” stated Shire President Eddie Smith.

This budget focuses on

  • Financial Stability and Growth
  • Development and renewal of Infrastructure for Community Use and Tourism
  • Targeted Tourism development
  • Development of plans for the future
  • Major Road improvements and repairs
  • Consolidation and responsible management of the community’s assets

Roads and Footpaths:  Record spending this year of $6.9 million will be coupled with an anticipated $13 million from the State Government to restore and improve Roads damaged in flood earlier in the year and maintain our footpaths and town streets.

Community and Tourism:  Reintroduction of live shows at the Woolshed, replacement of the Triple J Transmitter, festivals and events, greater support for our Library, and some new Christmas decorations.  We also support tourism with significant spending on promotions and implementation of our RV friendly town.

Youth: $567,000 on the Youth Precinct development and $80,000 on the Skate Park upgrade.

Parks, Gardens and Playgrounds:  $2.5 million on Town amenity improvements, playgrounds, parks upgrades and reticulation and enhancements to the Fascine wall, BBQs, and shelters.

Airports: $1.1 million on the runway and building upgrades; a significant portion of this spending will be the Coral Bay Airstrip upgrade.

Environment and Waste:  Commence development of the new Coral Bay Tip Site and improve natural land management of the river and gullies.

“The Council is determined to listen, support and further develop our community.  During the coming year a major focus will be development of plans for the future of Carnarvon,” said Cr Smith.  “Considerable community engagement is desired, so when the time comes, please put your hand up to be involved in shaping the future of our community.”

A Q&A Session on Rates will be held soon at the Shire of Carnarvon for all community members interested.
