As the year draws to a close, our collaboration with Carnarvon Clontarf Academy has provided us with some fantastic beginnings!
With funding received from Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources ‘Stronger Communities Programme Round 7’, the Shire constructed six wicking beds which have been planted out by Clontarf students.
The students participated in the construction of the garden beds, then planting of desert rose, strelitzia bird of paradise, carpet rose, variegated crinum, dracaena and frangipanis, before doing some paperwork.
Once root bases become established, these garden beds will be transported to Robinson Street to add to the colour and greening of our town centre.
Further congratulations are extended to Clayton, the well-deserved recipient of the Clontarf ‘Employment Award’ for 2022.
Clayton commenced as a School Based Trainee in the Parks and Gardens team in March 2021, working with our crews one day, one day of TAFE studies and 3 days of school each week.
This champion is to be commended for:
- His fantastic work ethic and commitment
- Completing Cert II in Rural Operations
- Graduation Year 12
- Presented with the 2022 Clontarf Employment Award, AND
- Accepted an offer for Full Time Employment with the Shire in a permanent role.
We look forward to Clayton joining our team full time, and can’t wait to see him working alongside the Clontarf students next year with our next opportunity to work with the organisation.
