The Shire of Carnarvon recently met with Sister Council partners the City of Cockburn while attending the annual Western Australian Local Government Association Conference in Perth. The Shire was represented by President Cr Eddie Smith, Deputy President Cr Burke Maslen, CEO Andrea Selvey, and Cr Alexander Fullarton. In attendance for the City of Cockburn was Mayor Logan Howlett, Acting CEO Victoria Green, Manager of Advocacy and Engagement Daniel Newman JP, and Manager of Transformation Michael Swanepoel.
The City of Cockburn briefed Shire representatives on the City’s new employee code of conduct and the process adopted by the City for the code’s development and execution while the Shire offered opportunities for Cockburn’s staff to experience Local Government in regional WA, with locum placements at the Carnarvon Office in the heart of the Gascoyne.
Following the meeting, Shire President Cr Eddie Smith said he looks forward to the ongoing partnership with the City of Cockburn. “The meeting with the City of Cockburn generated valuable insights and knowledge sharing which benefits our respective regions,” said Cr Smith.
The Shire develops partnerships with government and non-government organisations to achieve positive outcomes for the Carnarvon region through the exchange of strategies, ideas, and information. The agreement with the City of Cockburn was formally accepted by Carnarvon Council in February 2022 following correspondence and conversations with the CEO and the Mayor for the City of Cockburn from August 2021.
The City of Cockburn is a metropolitan local government area located within the southern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, and is comprised of a population of more than 100,000 residents.
