Officially opened in October 2013 by the Premier of Western Australia, the Hon Colin Barnett, the new Regional Library and Art Gallery was funded through several sources of Royalties for Regions grants.  The modern and contemporary space has improved access to information, knowledge, art, skill development, cultural awareness, technology, workshop space, historical information and a social hub and provides the Shires of Exmouth, Upper Gascoyne, Shark Bay and Carnarvon communities with both a library and art gallery that will meet and address current and future needs.

Membership is FREE to permanent residents of Carnarvon. Applicants are required to provide details of a second contact person residing at an alternate WA address and must provide two forms of identification:-
• Photographic ID with proof of applicant’s permanent Carnarvon address.
• Medicare card, concession card or similar.
Membership is FREE to WA residents who are member of a public library in their hometown or suburb. Applicants are required to provide details of a second contact person residing at an alternate WA address and must provide two forms of identification:-
• Photographic ID
• WA Library Card (Home Library)
Visitors can join on a temporary basis provided they plan to stay in Carnarvon for at least one month. Together with one form of photographic identification and details of a second contact at an alternative address within Australia, a bond is payable on application and refunded to the borrower on return of all items to the library.

All members MUST present their library card each time items are borrowed.

Homebound Library Service
A mobile library service is available to community members who are unable to visit the library.

Station Loans
Regular consignments of books, DVD’s and magazines are delivered to families living on remote stations within the Shire. Contact the library for an application form and station loan profile.

Adults Book Club
Held at the library every six weeks and open to all who wish to join.

Internet and Computer Access
Computer, Internet, wireless internet and printing services are available. Library Members and members of WA Public Libraries are able to access 30 minutes of free computer/internet access or 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi access per day. Extra time can be purchased if required. Fees apply for non-library members.

Photocopying, Printing and Fax Services
Fees apply (contact library staff for more information).

Basic Internet and Cyber Safety Online
Free online sessions are available to patrons who need to learn the basics of the internet. Sessions are provided through accessing State Government websites designed to enhance basic online skills and promote online safety.


The library offers a wide range of free activities suitable for children of all ages.

Storytime – every Tuesday 10:30 – 11:30 am (school terms only). Suitable for children up to 5 years old.

Baby Rhyme Time – every Wednesday 9:30 to 10:30 am (school terms only). Suitable for babies aged 0 – 24 months.

Kids Book Club held the first Tuesday of the month 3:00 to 4:00 pm (school terms only.). Suitable for children aged between 8 and 12 years old.

Lego Club held weekly (school terms only). Parents are required to register their children for sessions as numbers are limited.
