Emergency Update – Red Alert (Cyclone Narelle)
Coral Bay and Carnarvon are now on Emergency Warning (Red Alert).
There is a threat to lives and homes. You are in danger and need to act immediately.
What to do:
- Shelter indoors immediately
- Stay in the strongest, safest part of your building
- Stay away from doors and windows and keep them closed
- Keep your emergency kit with you
- Do not leave until advised it is safe
Total Fire Ban – Shire of Carnarvon: A Total Fire Ban is in place due to forecast catastrophic conditions. All open fires and activities that may cause sparks are prohibited.
Temporary Levee Works: As a precautionary measure, a temporary levee will be constructed between the Yacht Club and the West Street levee to assist in protecting residential areas.
Evacuation Centre – Carnarvon: Opened by the Department of Communities

Road Closures: The road to Pelican Point is closed from the Heritage Precinct turn-off until further notice.
West Street, Cleaver Street (Yacht Club side), Douglas Street and Young Street are currently closed.
Harbour Road and Pelican Point are now also closed.
Sandbags are available at: Shire Depot, Carnarvon Airport, Truck Bay – North West Coastal Hwy near McGlades Road, and Brown Street. Please bring your own shovel if possible.
Waste Services Update: The Waste Facility is closed over the weekend. There will be no bin collection today, Friday 27 March. Updates on reopening and rescheduled collections will be provided as soon as more information becomes available.
Coral Bay Waste Facility is closed until further notice.
Shire Administration: Shire Administration offices are closed Friday 27 March 2026.
Library & Art Gallery Update: Carnarvon Library & Art Gallery is closed Friday 27 March and Saturday 28 March 2026 due to forecast weather conditions associated with Tropical Cyclone Narelle.
