Shooting Stars is an education and empowerment program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls in Western and South Australia. Based in twenty-two schools, Shooting Stars is staffed by predominantly Aboriginal women (85%) and reaches over 1,200 girls and young women.
On Wednesday, 25 October, the Shire of Carnarvon Library and Art Gallery marked a significant milestone in its history by celebrating a decade since its relocation from what is now the Council Chambers to the former old Squash Courts. Over the past ten years, this vibrant space has transformed into a hub for learning, diverse programs, and the flourishing of arts and culture, enriching the lives of the community.
To coincide with ‘The Alternative Archive’ touring to Carnarvon, the ART ON THE MOVE team travelled to our sunny coastal town to work alongside the Carnarvon Library & Art Gallery Team, guiding them through the process of exhibition installation and condition reporting. It was wonderful to connect with their fantastic team and pass on some of our expert advice, tips, and tricks.
The official Opening Event of the Visions of the Cosmos exhibition and book launch took place on Friday 14th April 2023, at the Shire of Carnarvon Library and Art Gallery. The opening commenced the five-week exhibition period which runs from 14th April to 20th May 2023.
ART ON THE MOVE brought textile artist Susie Vickery to Carnarvon in November for workshops in garment upcycling. Susie shared stitching, decorative mending techniques and much more with participants, all of whom clearly enjoyed getting creative with upcycling their own garments.
The major Art Gallery infrastructure works which commenced in April 2022 are now complete and timed perfectly to align with the opening of our latest exhibition Wild Garden by local Gascoyne Artists Sadie James and Jess Hadden.
