Shire Charges up Fundraising Efforts for Carnarvon Speedway Club

At the Council meeting on 24 January, Council resolved to formalise an agreement with the Carnarvon Speedway Club which will allow the Club to collect lead acid batteries from the Brown’s Range Landfill site for resale as a fundraising activity.

The agreement will provide the Club with a regular source of funding while at the same time, assisting the Shire with recycling and sustainability efforts.

In recent years the Club has constructed a grandstand for spectators, completed refurbishments of the canteen kitchen and upgraded the track lighting in time for the 2023 season. The agreement to collect batteries from the Shire will provide ongoing fundraising opportunities to assist the Club with future projects to improve pit safety and PA upgrades, not only for visiting drivers, but also for the home-grown State racing champions that make up the Carnarvon Club.

In approving the agreement, Council recognises the valuable social and economic impact the Club has in Carnarvon, with the 2022 Sprint Car State Title attracting hundreds of visitors to town for two clay-spraying nights of racing in April.

The Speedway Club has released the Race Calendar for 2023, so visit their website or Facebook page for details, and don’t forget the season opener this Saturday night! Gates open at 4pm and racing starts at 7pm, get trackside to check out one of the best tracks in the state with full canteen and bar available.

If you are a local club or community group seeking some funding support, our first round of the Community Growth Fund is currently open for applications, closing 12 February 2023. See more information or apply here: https://bit.ly/3jfJQFm
