How to use a BEN sign in an emergency
- Call 000 and quote the BEN code and location information.
- Where possible, have someone wait at the BEN sign until emergency services arrive.
- BEN sign locations and numbers are also available in the SharkSmart WA app under the Report section, with a quick link to dial 000.
- When visiting the beach, consider taking a photo of the nearest BEN sign for reference.

Reporting a shark sighting
- Use the BEN sign number when reporting a sighting to Water Police on 9442 8600.
