The Beautiful Streets Action Plan brings together a series of Shire of Carnarvon initiatives to create vibrant, welcoming, and sustainable public spaces. Building on programs like the Verge Consultation 2023, Greening Carnarvon 2024, and the Shire’s Public Open Space Strategy, this plan outlines a three-year vision for transforming our streets into beautiful, functional, and community-focused spaces.

At its heart, Beautiful Streets is about collaboration—engaging residents, local artists, and community groups to bring these projects to life. By enhancing the aesthetic appeal, functionality, and sustainability of our public areas, we aim to foster a vibrant, green, and inclusive environment for everyone in Carnarvon.

The Action Plan is structured around three key pillars, developed through community consultation and prioritisation processes:

1. Greening Carnarvon
Focused on cultivating greenery and community engagement, this pillar encourages locals to participate in placemaking projects that enhance our town’s identity. Through initiatives like mural creation and public art installations, especially involving youth, we aim to build pride and a strong sense of belonging. A dedicated Town Team will also support the ongoing beautification and identity of Carnarvon.

2. Placemaking & Art
Carnarvon is a creative hub, with assets such as the state-of-the-art gallery at the Shire library, the new Community Art Hub, and the WA Museum Gwoonwardu Mia Cultural Centre. This pillar leverages these platforms to showcase local artists and embed culture into our streetscapes, making art a visible and integral part of everyday life.

3. Activation
Bringing streets to life through events, upgraded public spaces, and interactive experiences, this pillar creates dynamic environments where people want to gather. From community events and arboretum improvements to wayfinding and heritage promotion, Activation connects residents and visitors with Carnarvon’s culture, history, and community pride.

Together, these pillars form the foundation of the Beautiful Streets initiative, guiding Carnarvon toward a future that is aesthetically pleasing, culturally vibrant, and environmentally sustainable.
