The Shire of Carnarvon is pleased to announce that it has secured funding from the Department of Transport to facilitate critical upgrades to the Carnarvon Airport. This funding, up to $8 million, has been approved as part of the 2024-2025 State Budget and will be used to ensure the airport’s pavement is suitable for unrestricted operations of REX Airlines Dash Q400 aircraft.

The Shire of Carnarvon is pleased to announce that a local building company has been awarded the tender to construct worker’s accommodation on Parnaa View, Brockman. This project, funded through the Regional Economic Development program by the Gascoyne Development Commission, aims to address the pressing shortage of appropriate housing for workers relocating to Carnarvon.

Housing and workforce accommodation shortages remain a critical constraint to Carnarvon's social and economic function. In response to this pressing issue, the Shire of Carnarvon, in partnership with the Gascoyne Development Commission, engaged consultants Urbis to conduct a comprehensive enquiry into the best options for developing the next 100 new homes in Carnarvon and to analyse the underlying causes of the housing market failure.

The assessment criteria measure the anticipated impact on community objectives—economic, social, and environmental—and the ease of implementation. This includes factors such as stakeholder engagement, funding acquisition, planning, regulatory requirements, scope of works, and budget considerations.

The Shire of Carnarvon is proud to announce that it has successfully secured $3.357 million from Lotterywest. This grant, combined with a Shire co-contribution of $554,000, and additional funding contributions of $1.049 million from other partner agencies, will be dedicated to the implementation of Phase One of the Carnarvon Activation Plan. The Plan, which was endorsed by Council at the Ordinary Council meeting in December 2023 provides a strategic vision to invigorate Carnarvon's community spaces and enhance visitor experiences.

The Shire of Carnarvon is thrilled to announce that it has successfully secured $500,000 in funding from the Local Government Resilience Fund, funded by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services. This funding will be dedicated to vital upgrades to the Woolshed at the Civic Centre, serving as an evacuation centre for the Shire. The improvements will include roofing of the outdoor area, enhancements to the kitchen facilities, and interior renovations.
