Register Your Team

To register your team and boat, complete a registration form in person at:

  • Telomac Tackle & Camping
  • Cuppa & Crumb
  • Toyworld Carnarvon

Entry: $20 per boat/team
Crew: Maximum of four crew members per boat

Cash prizes of up to $500 are up for grabs, along with plenty of other prizes.

Race Categories

Teams can enter one of three categories:

Kids: 6–16 years
Adults: 17 years and over
Family: A combination of adults and children

You don't have to be the fastest boat to take home a prize. Awards will also recognise creativity, innovation, appearance, distance, special efforts and more, with surprise spot prizes throughout the event.

If your boat doesn't pass the pre-race safety inspection, it can still be displayed and judged for its creativity, appearance and ingenuity.

The Challenge

The challenge is simple: turn litter and unwanted materials into something creative, clever and hopefully seaworthy.

Boats and rafts can be constructed using materials such as:

  • Litter collected through community clean-ups
  • Recyclable containers and unwanted packaging
  • Household, workplace or business waste
  • Discarded or reusable materials
  • Rope, cable ties, duct tape, sealant and other joining materials
  • Homemade paddles

Participants must read the Information Booklet and event rules before beginning their build.

Some materials are prohibited for safety and environmental reasons, including exposed polystyrene or foam, structural timber, motors, heavy or ballast materials, sharp materials and anything that may create an environmental or entanglement hazard.

Get Involved Before Regatta Day

A series of marine clean-ups will be held in the lead-up to the Regatta, giving the community an opportunity to help remove litter and marine debris from some of our favourite coastal locations.

9 October: Town Beach – followed by Boat Building Workshop
16 October: Small Boat Harbour
23 October: Oyster Creek
30 October: Massey Bay
6 November: Dwyers Leap
13 November: Miaboolya Beach
20 November: Chinamans Pool & Tuckers Pump

There will also be a special group excursion to the Quobba coastline.

Further information about these activities will be released closer to each event.

Safety and Boat Inspections

Safety is a priority for all participants and spectators. Every boat must pass a pre-race safety inspection before it can enter the water.

8:00am: Initial boat inspection
9:00am – 10:00am: Repairs and adjustments
10:00am: Final safety sign-off
10:30am: Racing begins

All racing crew members must wear an approved life jacket.

Safety teams, marine support and First Aid will be available on the day. Racing may be stopped, postponed or activities modified if conditions are considered unsafe.

Leave No Trace

The Litter Legends Regatta is all about reducing litter and marine debris, so participants are expected to leave Town Beach clean following the event.

All teams are responsible for removing their boats, building materials and waste after the event. Remaining materials should be reused, recycled or disposed of appropriately.

Regatta Day

Even if you're not building a boat, everyone is encouraged to come down to Town Beach and enjoy the action.

Regatta Day will feature boat racing, prizes, creative boat displays, bouncy castles, food vans, music, family activities, Litter Legends activities and more.

Come along, support the teams and see which creations manage to stay afloat!
