Last week Tay from Meraki Boho completed her second stunning mural in town, this time on Dunnings, and its absolutely bursting with colour, connection and community spirit.

Reflecting on her time in Carnarvon Tay said, "Everyone made me feel so welcome — it definitely feels like a home away from home." She loved exploring the town, the beaches, and even having a shady mural site to paint in!

A special part of this project was working alongside local school students. "I encourage them not to worry about mistakes or staying inside the lines — it’s more important to enjoy the process of painting than worrying about the product," Meraki shared.

This project also marked a first for Tay – mentoring two local artists Leanne and Shaydon.

"It was both amazing and challenging. They soaked up the knowledge I threw their way and took on the feedback to improve and develop their skills. I'm so proud of what they contributed," she said.

Leanne reflected on her experience:

"I have felt extremely grateful to have worked alongside Tay with this mentorship program. As an artist, sometimes you don't know where to start, but Tay’s insights have really put things into perspective for me. It can be overwhelming in a sense, but being part of this project has really given me the confidence to put myself out there more and inspire others to do the same."

This mural project has been brought to life thanks to funding from the Department of Justice, as part of The Future is Me — a youth-led placemaking project designed by the Shire of Carnarvon, focused on empowering young people to make their mark on the community.

Public art like this strengthens community pride, inspires creativity, and shows everyone — especially young people — that art is a powerful, rewarding path to follow.

Thank you Tay, for once again capturing the heart of Carnarvon through your art!

Be sure to stop by Dunnings and see the incredible mural for yourself!
