Following renewed community interest in the cemetery and enquiries about public access, a digital lock has now been installed on the entrance gate beneath the “Carnarvon Pioneer Cemetery” sign on Richardson Street.
The cemetery is available to visitors between 9.00am and 4.00pm.
Access is free, with visitors able to request entry through the Shire’s online venue booking platform, SpaceToCo.
Once access has been requested, visitors will receive the gate access details. Access will be provided for a one-month period, with the gate code reset each month to assist with protecting the site and monitoring visitation.
New signage will also be installed at the cemetery, including a QR code and instructions to make it easy for visitors to request access directly from the site.
The Carnarvon Pioneer Cemetery is an important part of our local history, and these new arrangements aim to balance public access with the ongoing care and preservation of the site.
The Shire would also like to acknowledge our Parks and Gardens Team for their recent work at the cemetery and their continued care in maintaining this significant part of Carnarvon’s heritage.
