Artist Opportunities
The Shire of Carnarvon is proud to announce it has received grant funding to deliver YOUnity: Flags in Motion & Our Stories in Voice, an inspiring youth LGBTQI+ project taking place these spring school holidays at the Community Art Hub.
Delivered in collaboration with North Midlands Project, Australia Museums and Galleries Association, and proudly supported by Healthway, this initiative forms part of the statewide YOUnity studios, using the SEW-Arts framework to foster healthy, connected, and vibrant creative communities.
Creative facilitator Sami will be leading these sessions, alongside the Community Art Hub team, giving Carnarvon’s young people two creative opportunities designed to amplify youth voices and celebrate diversity:
- Our Stories in Voice
Participants aged 12–25 are invited to share their stories in their own way—through writing, spoken word, poetry, or short stories. These contributions will be transformed into two powerful songs by the West Australian Opera, giving voice to LGBTIQA+ young people across regional WA.
- Flags in Motion
Young people will design and create personal flags that reflect their pride, story, and sense of identity. These individual works will be sewn together into a striking large-scale collaborative artwork, symbolising unity across distance and difference.
