The Shire of Carnarvon Library & Art Gallery is delighted to announce that we have once again been successful in securing funding to support this year’s CBCA Children's Book Week celebrations. As a result, our community can look forward to welcoming award-winning, internationally published, illustrator and author of over two dozen books for children, Kelly Canby who will be visiting local schools as well as running a workshop at the library for adults between 14 and 18 August 2023.
Kelly’s picture book The Hole Story won the prestigious 2018 Western Australian Premier’s Book Award for Writing for Children, while Littlelight was shortlisted for the same award in 2019. Rodney, The Hole Story, and Littlelight have all been Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Notable books for Picture Book of the Year. Kelly is also well known for her illustration work on writer Jaclyn Moriarty’s Kingdoms and Empires series of books, four of which have either won or been shortlisted for several awards. Of further excitement, Kelly has recently released her latest picture book Timeless to great acclaim and will be promoting this during her visit.
Due to high demand, Kelly will be visiting Carnarvon from 14 to 18 August which is the week before the official CBCA Book Week. We will continue our celebrations through to 25 August, when we'll be holding competitions with official CBCA Book Week merchandise and more to be won. Make sure to keep up to date via this website and our Facebook page as we announce all the details.
This funding support has been provided to metropolitan and country public libraries by the State Government of Western Australia through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Heathway, and the Children’s Book Council of Australia WA Branch. Additional funding support from the Shire of Carnarvon outlines the commitment to delivering programs such as CBCA Book Week which support literacy development, learning and wellbeing in our community.
