Q&A

Why is the Shire now charging to visit or camp at the Blowholes?

These fees help support the sustainable management of the reserve. Revenue will go toward site maintenance, waste services, ranger presence, environmental protection, and improved visitor infrastructure. The goal is to preserve this unique area for current and future generations.

Why is the camping fee $30 per night? That’s close to what I’d pay at a caravan park.

While basic, the Blowholes campground still requires management – including waste removal, signage, booking systems, road maintenance, and ranger patrols. The $30 fee (up to 6 people per site) ensures the reserve remains safe, clean, and sustainable without overburdening ratepayers.

Can I book a campsite far in advance and cancel last minute without a fee?

To avoid misuse, bookings will be limited to 90 days in advance, and we’re working on clear policies for cancellations and refunds to ensure fair access to all.

Do I have to pay the Annual Membership or camping fee if I own a shack at the Blowholes?

Yes. When staying at a shack, you are required to purchase an Annual Membership when staying overnight at the reserve.

If you're not eligible for the Annual Membership, the camping fee can be paid directly to the Camp Host upon arrival. This ensures consistency and fairness across all visitors.

What about chemical toilets, are they going to be compulsory?

Yes, chemical toilets have always been compulsory for overnight camping at the Blowholes Eco Reserve, and this requirement will remain in place to protect the environment and ensure responsible camping practices.

How large are the camp sites? Is there adequate space for two LV's & Caravans?

A detailed campsite map will be available soon, showing the layout and spacing of each site. If a single site does not provide enough space for two long vehicles or caravans, you will be required to book two campsites to ensure safety and comfort for all visitors.

Are the sites numbered?

Yes, all campsites will be individually numbered to ensure clear bookings and easy navigation for visitors.

Do I need to pay for a day pass if I am camping at the reserve? (As a local or visitor)

No, you don’t need to pay for a day pass if you are camping. The day use fee is already included in your camping fee, whether you’re a local or a visitor.
