Woolshed Evacuation Centre Upgrade

The Shire of Carnarvon is undertaking important infrastructure upgrades to the Woolshed at the Carnarvon Civic Centre, which serves as the town’s designated emergency evacuation centre.

This project focuses on improving the building’s safety, comfort, and functionality during emergencies and disaster response events. The upgrades are intended to make the Woolshed more resilient, accessible, and equipped to support the needs of the community in times of crisis.

Project Scope

The works include installation of new weatherproof doors, replacement of internal linings and flooring, and upgrades to the courtyard, kitchen, and ventilation systems. These improvements will ensure the Woolshed can operate as a fit-for-purpose shelter for evacuees and support services during emergency situations.

Funding & Delivery

The project is funded through the Seroja Community Resilience Program, facilitated by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES). Design and engineering consultancy has been provided by Lambert & Rehbein Engineers, with the construction contract yet to be awarded.

What’s Next?

Construction is scheduled for completion by September 2025, with works to be carefully staged to minimise disruptions and ensure the centre remains available for emergency use if required.

The Shire of Carnarvon remains committed to strengthening emergency preparedness and community resilience through practical, people-focused infrastructure investment.
