Opening Night SOLID GROUND
The Carnarvon Library & Art Gallery was packed on Friday evening, 29 August as locals came together for the opening of "Solid Ground", the fantastic new art exhibition showcasing artists from across our region. The event highlighted the Gascoyne's vibrant creative scene, with artworks that captured everything from environmental themes to bold visions of the future, leaving attendees inspired.
The opening night drew a great crowd who got to see amazing new artworks from talented artists from Shark Bay, Exmouth and Carnarvon. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful art, delicious curries from Cuppa and Crumb, and the chance to catch up with fellow art lovers.
"Solid Ground" is our Gascoyne region's take on the theme "Radical Futures", part of a big state-wide art project curated by Sarah Roots. The name comes from the famous Goanna song "Solid Rock," which echoed through the Jamba Nyinayi Festival and inspired many, along with our local way of calling something good and reliable "solid." It beautifully ties radical ideas to the sacred ground and environment of the Gascoyne.
Visitors can also try the "Postcard from the Future" activity, where you write a message to yourself imagining what your future might look like.
This exhibition is more than just a local show. Our Gascoyne artists now have a chance to be selected for a major exhibition at John Curtin Gallery in 2026, and possibly the ART ON THE MOVE touring show from 2027-2029.
The exhibition runs until 4 October 2025 during normal opening hours. It's free to visit, so come down to the Carnarvon Library & Art Gallery and see what our local artists have created. You won't be disappointed!
SOLID GROUND, proudly delivered by Shire of Carnarvon, is part of the third Regional Arts Triennial, funded from the State Government’s Regional Exhibition Touring Boost, delivered by ART ON THE MOVE.
