A new Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) – the Common Ground initiative, has been steadily growing in Carnarvon over recent years, driven by a shared vision for a stronger future.

After three incredible days of music, storytelling, cultural experiences, art and community celebration, the 2026 Gnulli Festival has officially wrapped and what a celebration it was.

The Shire of Carnarvon presents Portraits of Yinggarda Elders II, a powerful exhibition celebrating the strength, stories and cultural legacy of eight respected Yinggarda Elders. Opening Saturday 23 May, 10–11am with a Yarns & Tea gathering during the Gnulli Festival, the exhibition runs until 13 June at the Shire of Carnarvon Library & Art Gallery.

Central Regional TAFE invites the Carnarvon community to a Reconciliation Week Watch Party Breakfast on Tuesday 2 June, 9am–10am at the Carnarvon Campus. Join staff, students and community to share a meal, yarn together and view the National Reconciliation Week broadcast live from Perth.

A powerful new welcome sign has been installed at Carnarvon Airport, proudly recognising that visitors and returning locals are arriving onto Yinggarda Country.

Carnarvon artists Barry Bellotti Snr and Karla Tittums have been chosen for the WA Regional Arts Triennial 3 at John Curtin Gallery, Perth. Their works will feature alongside 154 artists from across Western Australia.

The community is invited to the official launch of Carnarvon Common Ground on Wednesday 17 June, 10am–12pm at 13 Stuart Street. Come along to meet the Elders, explore new services and help shape solutions built by community, for community.

Carnarvon First Nations artists Karla Tittums and Devinia Wainwright returned home inspired after showcasing their work at WA's largest Aboriginal art event, the Revealed Exhibition at PICA and Aboriginal Art Market at WA Museum Boola Bardip. Both artists celebrated the exposure, networking opportunities, and chance to share their cultural stories on a statewide stage, proudly putting Carnarvon's creative talent on the map.

Melbourne-based artist Linda Tegg is returning to Carnarvon for the final stage of her residency as part of Circular Economies, supported by SPACED and the Shire of Carnarvon. Her new project, Situational Awareness, explores the region's night skies, the historic OTC satellite dish, and Yinggarda cultural stories, premiering at the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum before travelling to PICA in 2026.

Portraits of Yinggarda Elders II is a powerful community art initiative delivered as part of the Shire of Carnarvon’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2025–2027. Led by artist Gosia Taylor and supported by community engagement from Cheryl Moncreiff, the project brings together Yinggarda Elders, local artists and community members to celebrate culture, strengthen relationships and increase the visibility of Yinggarda women within our civic spaces.

The Carnarvon Common Ground Project is seeking an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander artist living in Carnarvon to collaborate on the design of the project’s branding and website. This is an opportunity to contribute creatively to a community-driven initiative that reflects the region’s culture, identity, and aspirations.
