Australian Parliament House Artist-in-Residence

We're inviting Australian visual artists — at any stage of their career — to apply for our Artist-in-Residence program at Australian Parliament House.

A One-of-a-Kind Residency

Step behind the scenes of Australia's working Parliament, where politics, history, architecture and art come together. There's more here than you'd expect:

• 23 hectares of gardens
• 8 beehives
• 6,000+ artworks
• 2,600 clocks
• Hansard records dating back to 1901
• 125 years of federal parliamentary history

Art has been at the heart of Parliament House since it opened. As the original architects put it, artworks act as "a subtle 'speaking out'" — a reminder of democracy as the forging of consensus from many points of view. This residency continues that legacy.

What You'll Receive

• Recognition as Artist-in-Residence for the 48th Parliament
• $10,000 research fee
• Up to $30,000 commission fee for new work
• Up to 12 months' access to Parliament House, the Parliamentary Library and Art Collections
• Travel and accommodation support

The program runs once every three years, aligned with each Parliamentary term.
