Reconciliation Action Plan
Official Launch of Carnarvon Common Ground
The community is invited to attend the official launch of Carnarvon Common Ground on Wednesday 17 June from 10am–12pm at 13 Stuart Street, Carnarvon.
The launch marks an important milestone for the newly formed Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO), created to support local people through community-led services, partnerships and solutions.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the Elders and community members whose knowledge, leadership and lived experience have guided the creation of Carnarvon Common Ground, while also learning more about the services and programs available.
A key feature of the launch will be an interactive “Issues vs Solutions” display, designed to encourage community participation and conversation. Community members will be invited to identify the issues they believe are most prevalent in Carnarvon and suggest services, programs or initiatives they feel could best address them.
The activity aligns with the Working Groups of Carnarvon Common Ground and provides an opportunity for individual voices to be heard while connecting with service providers, stakeholders and fellow community members.
Community members will also be among the first to explore the new Carnarvon Common Ground website, with public access provided on the day. The website will showcase services, resources and information available through the organisation, while also inviting community feedback and suggestions for future improvements.
The launch will also feature the presentation of a new social media storytelling campaign developed with local filmmaker Hugh Sando, sharing short stories that reflect the voices, experiences and aspirations of the community.
Speeches will be delivered by representatives from the Gascoyne Development Commission, Carnarvon Common Ground and the Elders Advisory Council, highlighting the collaborative journey behind the initiative and the vision moving forward.
Rejuvenate: The Wellness Booth will open from 10am–12pm on the day, providing tea and coffee for attendees.
Community members are encouraged to come along, connect, contribute ideas and learn more about services built by community, for community.
For catering purposes, RSVP via email to info@carnarvoncommonground.com.au.
