At its Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 27 May in Coral Bay, the Council endorsed hosting the 2026 WA Tourism Conference, a major milestone in the region’s tourism and economic development journey.
Set to take place from 25–27 May 2026, the WA Tourism Conference will bring over 250 delegates to Carnarvon and is expected to inject more than $300,000 into the local economy through accommodation, hospitality, transport, and visitor experiences.
Shire President Eddie Smith said hosting the WA Tourism Conference aligns directly with the Shire’s focus on regional growth and economic diversification.
“This is a landmark opportunity for Carnarvon,” Cr Smith said.
“The conference will not only shine a spotlight on our vibrant tourism sector but also create flow-on benefits for local businesses, community organisations, and emerging tourism ventures. It’s a win that supports our broader vision for regional prosperity, as outlined in our Economic Development Strategy.”
“From our ancient landscapes and rich Aboriginal culture to the freshest produce in WA, Carnarvon has something special to offer. We can’t wait to welcome delegates and share our story.”
This announcement follows the official reveal at the 2025 WA Tourism Conference Dinner in Fremantle, with Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall praising Carnarvon’s readiness to host the prestigious event.
The WA Tourism Conference is delivered in partnership with Tourism Council WA, Visitor Centres WA, Caravan & Camping WA, Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council (WAITOC), and the Forum Advocating Cultural and Eco Tourism (FACET).
Hosting the 2026 conference is a unique opportunity for Carnarvon to build its profile as a regional destination and strengthen its role in the state’s tourism landscape. The Shire is committed to working closely with industry partners, local businesses, and the community to ensure the event leaves a legacy for the region.
