General

Carnarvon organisations have come together to create a meaningful campaign for 16 Days in WA.

16 Days in WA runs from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and also White Ribbon Day) to 10 December (Human Rights Day) each year. For 16 days in November and December, the community is invited to take a part in encouraging change to stop violence against women.

The 2025 campaign theme is Stopping Family and Domestic Violence: Play your part.

Under the facilitation of Project Manager Carmen Reilly, the program includes themes of education and awareness, mental health, young people’s voices, accountability, and supporting a more connected and resilient community. Carmen has delivered exceptional community engagement piece while engaged in this grant-funded role through the Carnarvon AOD Working Group, administered by the Shire of Carnarvon, with funding support from the Alcohol and Drug Foundation.

The program includes events being delivered by different service organisations across the Shire of Carnarvon and includes:

  • Gascoyne Women’s Refuge Breakfast
  • White Ribbon Day Community March
  • Violence against anyone is unacceptable luncheon
  • Dreaming Dolls with Jo Schapel
  • Healthy Relationships & Respectful Futures – youth workshop
  • Community BBQ
  • 16 Voices with Carmen Reilly
  • 16 Days in WA Closing Morning Tea

The Shire of Carnarvon would like to thank our community for their work to show up for this important topic.

Carnarvon Alcohol & Other Drug working group (CAOD)

The 16 Days in WA campaign is created by the Carnarvon AOD working group, administered by the Shire of Carnarvon. This group works from the Carnarvon Community Alcohol & other Drugs Action Plan 2024-2027; for a healthier Carnarvon and stronger community. This network is made up of community services active in Carnarvon and a key priority is the development of a program to raise awareness of domestic violence during 16 Days in WA.
