Celebrating Library Lovers Day 2024!

Carnarvon Library & Art Gallery was awash with red and pink colours on Wednesday 14th February as our community celebrated Library Lovers Day 2024. This annual day is an opportunity for local communities to show their love for public libraries, reconnect with reading and learning, and have fun!

The day was an opportunity for the community to discover our programs and events for all ages, with popular sessions such as Baby Rhyme Time and Storytime returning alongside popular favourites such as LEGO Club and Crafty Bookworms for children and teens. For adults, expressions of interest were taken for our Book Club and Film Club, as well as educational opportunities such as our Be Connected workshop series to assist seniors with knowledge of tech topics. A new free local history initiative was also launched on the day, Scan the Clan! with the aim assisting locals in digitising their family photo albums to preserve these precious memories from pests, natural disasters, and the ravages of time.

For the craft-inclined attendees on the day, Carnarvon Library & Art Gallery participated in the 1000 Hearts initiative. This project is a global kindness community started in 2016 by Sarah De Jonge, who felt inspired to do something focused on offering kindness without any agenda or pay-off. She wanted to make something small that could be given to people, and a ‘pocket heart’ appealed to her as the universal symbol of the heart. Local Carnarvon residents of all ages came together to sew almost fifty hearts, while enjoying light refreshments throughout the day. A Lucky Door Prize competition was a way for us to congratulate one person who visited us during our opening hours on the day. Storm, visiting with her mum, was the lucky winner to take home the prize.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us on the day and reached out to us on social media – we look forward to welcoming you back for Library Lovers Day in 2025!
