Circular Economies at PICA, 16 October – 20 December 2026
Situational Awareness, created right here in Carnarvon, is soon to be exhibited at PICA (Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts) as part of Circular Economies, where it arrived last Thursday and is being installed as we speak!
We are so proud to have had Melbourne artist Linda Tegg as our artist in residence here in Carnarvon through the SPACED Circular Economies project, hosted by the Library and Art Gallery team, and welcomed by Carnarvon community!
As part of this socially-embedded artist residency that took place across regional Western Australia throughout 2025 – 2026, Linda walked our Gascoyne country, listened to local stories working closely with Rennee Turner from Wooramulla Journeys, and Raymond Edney whose stories and on country excursions helped shaped Linda's artwork, learned about sky country, and spent nights watching the stars above us. The result? A stunning work that maps the satellite trails streaking above Carnarvon and translates them onto the ground using natural elements, including seagrass gathered from Bush Bay.
The work also features a beautiful collaborative cushion made with Linda Ebner from Jubilee Hall Craft Shoppe, and a photograph of our iconic OTC dish, a nod to the reactivation of the Satellite Earth Station, and a gentle reminder about light pollution and its impact on Yinggarda cultural stories and astronomy.
Following a local exhibition for six months at the Carnarvon Space and Technology Museum, it's now heading into its next chapter down south.
