This full-day professional development workshop presented by Western Australian artist Abdul-Rahman Abdullah offers an in-depth, practical discussion on his experiences in creating and maintaining a career as a full-time contemporary artist. From developing a cultural footprint, building a profile and being curated, to scheduling, life pressures and the money. Abdullah brings an honest approach to sharing his career trajectory while unpacking the values, commitment and labour behind fourteen years of professional practice.

About the artist
Abdul-Rahman Abdullah is a contemporary artist living on Bindjareb Nyoongar country, his home and studio is located on a cattle farm in the Peel region south of Boorloo/Perth. Working primarily in sculpture and installation, his work explores the intersections of identity, culture and the natural world. Living and working in an agricultural environment, his creative outlook offers alternative perspectives across diverse, and often disparate communities. Abdul-Rahman’s practice describes shared experiences of life, love and death through unexpected and poetic encounters with the natural world. Underpinning his approach to art making is the living connectivity of family.
