The Shire of Carnarvon is excited to announce that restoration works on the iconic Tramway Bridge are continuing to progress.

The Shire of Carnarvon and the Carnarvon Chamber of Commerce and Industry are joining forces once again to encourage residents and visitors to shop, dine, and spend locally this festive season.

The Shire of Carnarvon is proud to announce it has received two prestigious state awards and been named a finalist in two additional categories, recognising the organisation’s commitment to leadership, staff wellbeing, and inclusive workplace culture.

Created by disabled artist Bruno Booth and Lilly Blue (Head of Creativity and Learning, AGWA), this hands-on exhibition is a space for creativity, conversation, and empathy, gently challenging our assumptions about bodies and ability.

At a Special Council Meeting this week, the Shire of Carnarvon took major steps toward revitalising key infrastructure and boosting liveability and economic growth, allocating the $15.5 Million Regional Precincts and Partnerships Program (RPPP) funding package and endorsing the start of the Tramway Bridge reinstatement as part of the funding package.

At the Special Council Meeting held on Tuesday, 2 September, Council considered the officer recommendation to advocate for the reallocation of the $4.5 million State funding from the One Mile Jetty to the Tramway Bridge.

The Shire of Carnarvon is pleased to confirm that deployment of the new artificial reef off the Carnarvon coastline is well underway, with approximately half of the reef modules already in the water this week.

The Shire of Carnarvon Library & Art Gallery is proud to be the first venue in Western Australia to host an exhibition as part of the Regional Arts Triennial 3: Radical Futures. Radical Futures: SOLID GROUND, opens 29 August and officially launches this major statewide arts initiative celebrating regional creativity across Western Australia.

The Shire of Carnarvon's Litter Legends program is celebrating its fourth round after evolving from the Clean Community Coffees initiative. Initially launched with Community Litter Grants funding, the program's success has prompted the Shire to continue supporting it independently. Participants receive a coffee voucher from local cafes in exchange for collecting rubbish.

The Shire of Carnarvon is seeking community feedback on plans to install security fencing at the Pioneer Cemetery to protect this significant heritage site and its infrastructure. The project involves the installation of Garrison-style security fencing around the cemetery perimeter, with designated entry and exit points. Future security upgrades will include electronic time-locked gates to manage access more effectively.

The Shire of Carnarvon has approved a revised planning application by DG Corp, paving the way for an exciting waterfront development at the Fascine.

The Shire of Carnarvon has been recognised as a recipient of the prestigious 2024 Volunteer Employer Recognition Awards, joining 82 businesses and self-employed volunteers across Western Australia in being acknowledged for their invaluable contributions to emergency services. This recognition highlights the vital role that supportive employers and self-employed volunteers play in the State’s emergency service efforts, where over 95% of personnel are volunteers.

The Shire of Carnarvon is pleased to announce that it has secured funding from the Department of Transport to facilitate critical upgrades to the Carnarvon Airport. This funding, up to $8 million, has been approved as part of the 2024-2025 State Budget and will be used to ensure the airport’s pavement is suitable for unrestricted operations of REX Airlines Dash Q400 aircraft.

The budget was formally adopted in a recent Ordinary Council Meeting, meeting the deadline of 31 August as mandated by state law.

The Shire of Carnarvon is pleased to announce that nominations for the upcoming Regional Airports Development Scheme 2025-2027 funding round are now open. The Regional Airports Development Scheme, an ongoing funding program offered by the Western Australia Department of Transport, has previously supported the Shire in completing various upgrades to both Carnarvon Airport and Coral Bay Airstrip.
