The Shire of Carnarvon welcomes the appointment of Hon Martin Aldridge as Commissioner, following the decision by the State Government to appoint a Commissioner to lead the organisation until a new Council is elected in December 2026.

Chief Executive Officer Amanda Dexter said the appointment marks an important step forward for the organisation and community.

“I welcome the appointment of the Hon Martin Aldridge as Commissioner to the Shire of Carnarvon and look forward to working collaboratively with him to provide stability, continuity and strong leadership for our communities,” Ms Dexter said.

“Highly experienced and respected in both the public and private sectors, Mr Aldridge will lead the Shire of Carnarvon until a new council is elected in December 2026.

“The appointment of Commissioner Aldridge provides us with an opportunity to reset, refocus and continue building momentum around the future of our region.

“Carnarvon and Coral Bay have enormous potential, from tourism and economic development through to community wellbeing, infrastructure and liveability, and I remain incredibly optimistic about what can be achieved.”

Ms Dexter said despite recent governance challenges, the organisation has remained focused on delivering services and progressing key priorities for the community.

“Importantly, the work of the Shire has not stopped. Our team has remained focused and committed throughout this period, continuing to deliver essential services, progress major projects and support our residents, businesses and visitors across Carnarvon and Coral Bay.

“My commitment as CEO remains unchanged: to lead a professional, stable and forward-focused organisation that delivers for the community and works constructively with all stakeholders in the best interests of the region.”

Ms Dexter also acknowledged the efforts of staff, community groups and residents throughout the period of transition.

“I would like to acknowledge our staff, community partners, volunteers and residents for their resilience and ongoing support during a challenging period. The focus now is firmly on the future.”

The appointment of Commissioner Aldridge ensures decision-making can continue while maintaining continuity across projects, services and community priorities as the Shire works toward a special election in December 2026.
