The Shire of Carnarvon has recently completed mulching of invasive mesquite at Bibbawarra Bore, an important site that holds deep cultural and historical significance for the community.

This area is not only a valued natural environment, but also a place of heritage and connection for Traditional Owners and local residents. The works represent a meaningful step in preserving the integrity of the site, ensuring it remains accessible, respected, and enjoyed by future generations.

Mesquite is a highly invasive weed that can quickly overtake native landscapes and restrict access. By controlling its spread through mulching, the Shire is working to protect the ecological health of the area, while also supporting its revitalisation as a space for cultural engagement, learning, and reflection.

Further treatment and ongoing management are planned as part of a long-term strategy. This project forms part of the Shire’s continued commitment to environmental stewardship and the preservation of community heritage places across the region.

The works were funded through the State Natural Resource Management Program, managed by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD).
