𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗮 𝗘𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵
This community-led exhibition celebrated the strength, wisdom and living knowledge of eight respected Yinggarda women.
A special video captured one of the most moving moments of the Portraits of Yinggarda Elders II project: the heartfelt reveal of the paintings to the Yinggarda Elders themselves.
From the wonderful opening during the Gnulli Festival, where a warm crowd gathered for our "Yarns & Tea" event, to the beautiful private Elders lunch on 3 June, this initiative was filled with connection, respect and shared stories. These gatherings perfectly reflected National Reconciliation Week's theme of "All In", and watching the Elders see their portraits for the first time truly brought the project full circle.
The portraits were displayed at the Library & Art Gallery until 13 June 2026 and are now a permanent part of the Shire's Art Collection.
