Shire of Carnarvon Council Votes to Appoint New CEO

At the Special Council Meeting on 16 July, the Shire of Carnarvon Council voted to appoint Amanda Dexter, as the new Chief Executive Officer.

 

Recruitment commenced on 5 June 2024, following the departure of former Chief Executive Officer,  Andrea Selvey. Andrea transitioned to her new role as Chief Executive Officer of the Shire of Augusta Margaret River in mid-July. 

 

 

Amanda, formerly the Chief Executive Officer of the Shire of Derby West Kimberley, emerged as the top candidate after a rigorous review process conducted by the Management Review Committee.

 

Shire President Eddie Smith acknowledged the significant contributions of the former Chief Executive Officer, Andrea Selvey and expressed his enthusiasm for Amanda's appointment. 

 

 

The selection process was highly competitive, with Council receiving 74 applications for the highly coveted position. After thorough evaluation, Amanda was chosen for her exceptional skills and passion for community development.

 

 

Amanda brings a wealth of experience to the Shire of Carnarvon, having served as Chief Executive Officer at the Shire of Derby West Kimberley. Her career began as Western Operations Manager at the Shire of Ashburton, where she progressed to Director of Strategic and Economic Development before becoming Chief Executive Officer at the Shire of Wandering. Amanda’s notable achievements include leading major projects such as the Wheatstone oil and gas development in Onslow and the Onslow Airport Redevelopment. She has a strong background in strategic community planning, emergency response, and recovery, particularly in disaster-prone areas.

 

 

Acting Chief Executive Officer John Attwood will continue to helm the Shire of Carnarvon until Amanda commences her role on 22 October. The Shire of Carnarvon staff are excited to welcome Amanda to her new role.
