Your Coast, Your Say
The Shire of Carnarvon is preparing a Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan (CHRMAP) for the Carnarvon and Coral Bay coastline.
Our coastline is an important part of our community, supporting homes, businesses, tourism, recreation, infrastructure, cultural values and our local way of life. However, coastal areas can also be affected by hazards such as coastal erosion and inundation, and these risks may change over time.
The CHRMAP will help the Shire better understand these coastal hazards, identify areas and assets that may be at risk, and consider how we can plan for and adapt to coastal change over the short, medium and long term.
What is a CHRMAP?
A Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan is a long-term planning tool that helps local governments and communities understand and respond to coastal hazards.
The Carnarvon and Coral Bay CHRMAP will help:
- Identify areas that may be affected by coastal erosion and inundation.
- Better understand the potential risks to community assets, infrastructure, property and environmental values.
- Consider appropriate options for managing and adapting to coastal change.
- Inform future land use planning, infrastructure investment and coastal management decisions.
- Establish priorities for short, medium and long-term actions.

Your local knowledge matters.
Community members know our coastline and how it is used, valued and experienced. Your feedback will help the Shire understand what is important to the community and inform how coastal risks and adaptation options are considered.
We encourage residents, property owners, businesses, tourism operators, community organisations and anyone with an interest in the Carnarvon and Coral Bay coastline to get involved.

Date: Wednesday, 26 August 2026
Time: 11:00am – 1:00pm
Location: Bill's Bar
The sessions are an opportunity to learn more about the project, speak with the project team, ask questions and share your local knowledge.
