Carnarvon Airport Noise Incident

The Shire of Carnarvon thanks community members for their feedback regarding noise from a bird-scaring gas gun at Carnarvon Airport overnight.

The device, which is an approved wildlife hazard management tool used to reduce the risk of bird strikes and ensure aviation safety, had undergone servicing earlier in the day. While it was operating correctly during the final inspection at 10:00am, a fault occurred outside of business hours, causing the device to activate.

We understand this resulted in a significant disturbance to the community and sincerely regret the inconvenience caused. Upon becoming aware of the issue, the Shire took immediate steps to disable the device. It will remain out of operation until the fault can be rectified, and appropriate monitoring measures are in place.

We appreciate the community’s understanding as we work to balance residential amenity with the important responsibility of maintaining safe aerodrome operations.

Kind regards,

Shire of Carnarvon
