Cyclone Watch and Act – Community Safety Update
Published on Monday, 9 February 2026 at 1:27:29 PM
A Cyclone Watch and Act Warning remains in place for areas north of Ningaloo to Carnarvon, including Coral Bay.
The cyclone system is still impacting the region and dangerous conditions may continue. There remains a possible risk to life and property due to strong winds, heavy rainfall, and ongoing hazards.
What You Should Do
- Stay in your home or shelter for safety. If your home is badly damaged, move to a safer location if it is safe to do so.
- If you have left the area, do not return until advised by Emergency Services.
- Limit movement in affected areas while emergency crews work to clear debris, fallen trees, and powerlines.
- Do not go outside to check for damage at this stage.
- Avoid using gas appliances or generators indoors — fumes can be deadly.
- Conserve phone battery and water supplies where possible.
- Be alert for fallen powerlines, damaged trees, and other hazards.
- Do not walk, drive, swim, or play in floodwaters.
Protect Your Health and Safety
- Wear boots, gloves, and protective clothing when cleaning up.
- Wash hands regularly.
- Use insect repellent.
- Dispose of any food that required refrigeration if power was lost.
If Your Home Has Been Damaged
- Take photos and contact your insurance provider before starting clean-up.
- Stack loose materials and rubbish away from water meters, valves, and powerlines.
- Keep electricity, gas, and appliances turned off until inspected by a qualified tradesperson.
- Only use generators, barbecues, and portable stoves outdoors.
