Remuneration: 

$96,225.97 - $100,372.20 (FTE) Base Salary Plus superannuation, district and housing allowance (if eligible) depending on skills, qualifications and experience.

The Shire of Carnarvon is seeking expressions of interest from experienced and motivated safety professionals to join our organisation as a People & Safety Coordinator on a 6-month fixed-term contract, commencing in February 2026.

About the Role

The People & Safety Coordinator plays a key role in developing, implementing, and maintaining the Shire’s Work Health and Safety (WHS) framework. Working closely with leaders and employees, the role supports capability building, fosters a people-first safety culture, and drives continuous improvement in WHS systems, reporting, and compliance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating WHS system development, compliance activities, and legislative reporting

  • Leading risk assessments, workplace inspections, and safety audits

  • Supporting incident investigations, workers’ compensation, and return-to-work programs

  • Delivering WHS training, inductions, toolbox meetings, and capability-building workshops

  • Assisting leaders to strengthen WHS confidence, competence, and positive safety culture

  • Coordinating emergency management preparedness and safety initiatives across the organisation

This role is well-suited to someone who enjoys partnering with people, engaging with leaders, and building organisational safety capability.

About You

We are looking for someone who brings:

  • Demonstrated experience in WHS coordination, safety compliance, or risk management

  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, and industry best practice

  • Experience in incident investigations, WHS audits, and safety training

  • High-level communication and coaching skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with excellent attention to detail

  • A positive, collaborative, and people-focused approach

  • Experience in local government or another regulated environment (desirable but not essential)
