The Shire of Carnarvon is seeking expressions of interest from experienced and motivated safety professionals to join our organisation as a People & Safety Coordinator on a 6-month fixed-term contract, commencing in February 2026.

About the Role
The People & Safety Coordinator plays a key role in developing, implementing, and maintaining the Shire’s Work Health and Safety (WHS) framework. Working closely with leaders and employees, the role supports capability building, fosters a people-first safety culture, and drives continuous improvement in WHS systems, reporting, and compliance.
Key responsibilities include:

Coordinating WHS system development, compliance activities, and legislative reporting

Leading risk assessments, workplace inspections, and safety audits

Supporting incident investigations, workers’ compensation, and return-to-work programs

Delivering WHS training, inductions, toolbox meetings, and capability-building workshops

Assisting leaders to strengthen WHS confidence, competence, and positive safety culture

Coordinating emergency management preparedness and safety initiatives across the organisation
This role is well-suited to someone who enjoys partnering with people, engaging with leaders, and building organisational safety capability.
About You
We are looking for someone who brings:

Demonstrated experience in WHS coordination, safety compliance, or risk management

Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, and industry best practice

Experience in incident investigations, WHS audits, and safety training

High-level communication and coaching skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels

Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with excellent attention to detail
-
A positive, collaborative, and people-focused approach

Experience in local government or another regulated environment (desirable but not essential)
