Community Christmas Spirits are High, Following Successful Series of Community Events

On Saturday, 17 December, the town centre of Carnarvon came alive with a bustling hive of activity for the annual Christmas Street Party event. Lots of delicious foods were on offer, along with wonderful local wares for the Christmas shoppers. Special guests Matt and KT, recent stars of My Kitchen Rules, visited their hometown to share their cooking skills and flavours with the community.  Of course, Santa made an appearance to distribute more than 350 presents for Carnarvon youth. The evening included live entertainment by M8 Mewsic, the Tongan community and the local choir.

The Shire President, Eddie Smith, said, "The Shire of Carnarvon was proud to be once again the major sponsor of the event - our third year in a row. I commend the work of the Carnarvon Events committee and volunteers and of course our own Shire staff who have worked tirelessly over the previous months to bring the event together."

The Shire also supported Matt and KT with the ingredients for their cooking to help raise funds towards the Christmas Appeal Hampers with sales of the Crocodile Popcorn being a particularly popular treat, selling out within two hours. This initiative resulted in a profit of $1094 which was presented as a cheque to the Church of Christ’s ‘Hope in Our Community Food Parcel program’.
This donation supported the provision of more than 50 Christmas Hampers prepared and distributed throughout the community this morning under the ‘Hope in Our Community Food Parcel program’.

Shire President Eddie Smith said, "It was fantastic to visit the Church of Christ this morning and see the volunteers putting together hampers for our community. There is an incredible amount of community spirit in Carnarvon, and I am so proud of the efforts and thank those volunteers and efforts."
