The Shire of Carnarvon is taking a significant step toward international collaboration by progressing a Sister City relationship with the Municipality of Antunovac in Croatia. This initiative is more than a formal agreement; it represents Carnarvon's commitment to acknowledging and celebrating diverse cultures. As the world becomes more interconnected, Carnarvon welcomes the opportunity to build bridges with Antunovac, creating a tapestry of shared experiences and mutual growth.

This relationship aligns seamlessly with the Shire's Strategic Community Plan where our community acknowledges our history and celebrates our diverse cultures.

This initiative, proposed by Mr Luke Jurcevic, President of the Western Australian Croatian Chamber of Commerce, is based on recognising and celebrating the contributions of the Croatian community to Carnarvon's economic, social, and cultural fabric.

The decision to explore this partnership follows several visits by Mr Jurcevic and WA Croatian Chamber representatives to Carnarvon in the past two years. These visits underscored the desire to build stronger connections between the two regions.

The Municipality of Antunovac, situated approximately 213 km from Zagreb, Croatia's capital, offers a promising opportunity for collaboration. With a population of 3,559 residents, the municipality's emphasis on significant transport corridors and agricultural production aligns with Carnarvon's strategic position.

The proposed Sister City relationship brings with it a host of opportunities, including cultural exchange, economic partnerships, educational and professional programs, and tourism promotion. These potential collaborations could mutually benefit both Carnarvon and Antunovac, fostering understanding and appreciation of each other's traditions and driving economic development.
