The Shire of Carnarvon is excited to have partnered with the Baiyungu Aboriginal Corporation for the upcoming
Jamba Nyinayi Festival at Cardibia Station, happening from 11 to 13 April.
As part of this incredible collaboration, we're shedding light on the social impact within our local community. Let's take a sneak peek behind the scenes at two phenomenal groups that will be gracing the festival stage: Coral Spawn Dancers and Pundarra Performance Group.
Coral Spawn Dancers:
Formed exclusively for the inaugural Jamba Nyinayi Festival, these dancers hail from various language groups, all with deep connections to Baiyungu. Led by local talent Cheryl Moncrieff, the group was inspired by Baiyungu traditional owners Hazel Walgar and Gwen, who yearned to share the mesmerizing story of coral spawn through dance and music.
The Coral Spawn Dance is a tribute to the enduring vitality of the Ningaloo Reef and marine ecosystem. Witness the sea turning pink as coral releases eggs during a magical event that rejuvenates both the land and the marine life. The dance reflects the extraordinary marine behaviour during a total solar eclipse, making it an even more spectacular experience.
Pundarra Performance Group: Since 2015, this dynamic group has been weaving stories through contemporary dance. Emerging from the Ausdance's Future Landings program, they found joy in performing together and have been enchanting audiences across regional WA ever since.
Over the past 7 years, Pundarra Performance Group has graced numerous events in the Gascoyne Region, including Creality events, Ningaloo Centre's opening, Dirk Hartog celebrations, and more. Their passion for creating captivating narratives through dance shines brightly, bringing communities together.
