The Shire of Carnarvon Council has agreed to enter into a licence agreement with Horizon Power for the installation of two electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the town centre. The EV charging stations will be built on an area of land on Camel Lane for use by the community and visitors.
The terms in the agreement proposed by Horizon Power and accepted by the Shire will hold Horizon Power responsible for maintaining and operating the EV charging infrastructure for an initial term of 10 years and a further term of 5 years.
The licence contributes to the achievement of multiple objectives in the Community Strategic Plan 2022-2032 through building of trust with effective and competent Shire operations in the community’s interest and enhanced sustainability.
Horizon Power is working with Synergy and the Western Australian Government to build Australia’s longest connected EV fast-charging network across the state. When complete, the network will have 98 charging stations spread across 49 locations, including Carnarvon. The locations selected for the installation of the infrastructure was identified through the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategic Planning Report with input from local government authorities and regional development commissions.
The first step towards this exciting project, is the consolidation of multiple land lots at the current Civic Centre site, and for Department of Lands, Planning & Heritage to issue an updated Management Order to the Shire.
With a new Management Order in place, the Shire can issue a sub-lease or licence to Horizon Power and a projected timeframe will be published outlining projected timeframes for the new EV point.
