Today, we're thrilled to unveil a project that's been in the making since September 2023! With generous funding from the Shire of Carnarvon and the Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries, local artist Gosia Taylor led workshops at Gwoonwardu Mia during the School Holidays to bring this vision to life.

The Shire of Carnarvon is proud to announce the receipt of a $10,000 grant from the Saluting Their Service - Commemorative Grants program for the establishment of a War Memorial in Coral Bay. This significant funding will enable the community to finally have a dedicated space to honour and commemorate the individuals who have bravely served our country.

The Shire of Carnarvon is delighted to share the news of receiving a $10,000 grant from the Department of Communities for the Beautiful Streets: 6701 – Aboriginal Women’s Placemaking & Art Project. This project, a part of the Women’s Grants for a Stronger Future 2023 Grants Program, will be facilitated through the Community Art Hub.

The Shire of Carnarvon proudly acknowledges the outstanding work of Andrea Musulin and the Carnarvon Family Support Services in the launch of the book 'Keeping Kids Safe in Carnarvon' as part of National Child Protection Week. This initiative has been made possible through the generous support of the Shire of Carnarvon's Community Growth Fund, with 5000 copies of the book distributed across Carnarvon to benefit our community's children.

The Shire of Carnarvon is excited to announce that it has received funding from Inspire WA to host a series of engaging and educational events in celebration of National Science Week. These events, aimed at fostering a love for science and exploration among the youth of the community, will highlight the fascinating worlds of rocketry, agriculture, and engineering.

Yesterday marked the start of Homeless Week 2023. The week highlights the collective actions needed by community, together with all levels of government to help break the cycle of homelessness. Homelessness Week 2023 is a time to raise awareness of people experiencing homelessness or sleeping rough in our community.

We’re pleased to announce that GHD has been appointed as the project manager for the Flood Preparedness Project at the Shire of Carnarvon. Through this project we aim to mitigate the devastating effects of future flooding events. As project manager, GHD will oversee all aspects of the project. We can't wait to see the success of this vital work!

The Shire of Carnarvon is proud to announce its partnership with the prestigious McCusker Centre for Citizenship at The University of Western Australia to provide valuable internship opportunities to three talented individuals. The Shire of Carnarvon proudly presented the annual Carnarvon National Volunteer Week Awards yesterday, honouring the exceptional dedication and selfless contributions of volunteers within the community. With an overwhelming number of nominations received, the Awards Committee faced a tough task in selecting the winners, as every volunteer was recognised as a true champion.

Construction of a multi-stage development on the site of the old Police Station and Courthouse at 85 Olivia Terrace has been approved by the Shire of Carnarvon Council.

A project that was commenced in December last year in collaboration between Clontarf and the Shire has flourished and, as a result of those efforts, six wicking beds were delivered to the Main Street yesterday.

Refurbishment works totalling $170,000 have been completed at the Baston Pavilion, located at Carnarvon Festival Grounds in East Carnarvon prior to the commencement of the junior soccer season which has kicked off pre-season training.

The Shire of Carnarvon is pleased to announce the latest round of funding recipients from the Community Growth Fund as well as the Small Business Participation Grant (Solar Eclipse).  A total of seven organisations have been successful in securing grants for the Community Growth Fund Round 1 and a further ten have secured grants for the one-off Small Business Participation Grant (Solar Eclipse).

Local Contractors have completed maintenance and renewal works on the toilet facilities located at Town Beach so we are pleased to advise that this important community facility is now re-opened.

We are celebrating our Super Staff that reached milestones this year between one and FIFTEEN years’ service with the Shire of Carnarvon!

The Australia Day Breakfast and Awards ceremony at the Yacht Club was a huge success as the community came together to celebrate the achievements of its citizens and welcome new Australians. The event was followed by the Reflect, Respect, and Celebrate on Yinggarda Country event on the Fascine, showcasing the region's rich Aboriginal culture and heritage and concluded with fireworks.

The Shire of Carnarvon is proud to announce an opportunity for a talented Aboriginal artist or collaboration to paint a mural on the front of the council building on Yinggarda country. The mural’s theme will be "Reflect, Respect and Celebrate" to acknowledge the rich cultural heritage and history of the Yinggarda people.

The Shire of Carnarvon School Holiday Program was a resounding success this year, with hundreds of families and kids taking part in a range of fun and educational activities.

The Shire of Carnarvon would like to thank all the businesses, community groups and residents who entered the Christmas Home Light and Business Display competition. All the efforts from everyone brought extra cheer to our community this Christmas

The Shire of Carnarvon has completed its mandated review of its ward system required this year and presented its findings to Council, who considered that the current ward and representation levels should remain as they are based on the review.
