On Wednesday, 25 October, the Shire of Carnarvon Library and Art Gallery marked a significant milestone in its history by celebrating a decade since its relocation from what is now the Council Chambers to the former old Squash Courts. Over the past ten years, this vibrant space has transformed into a hub for learning, diverse programs, and the flourishing of arts and culture, enriching the lives of the community.

The 10-year anniversary celebration was a testament to the Shire of Carnarvon's unwavering commitment to fostering education, culture, and community spirit. The event was marked by several exciting activities and programs that reflect the library and art gallery's pivotal role in the community.

Joan Seth, the Babbage Island Lighthouse-keepers’ daughter and a volunteer tour guide, shared a captivating local history talk during the celebration. Her recollections of growing up in Carnarvon shed light on the town's rich heritage and deep-rooted traditions.

Another highlight of the event was an enlightening online Author Talk by Tracy Sorensen, a former Carnarvon resident and author of "The Lucky Galah." Sorensen's latest work, "The Vitals," is an inventive and playful cancer memoir that resonates deeply with the community.

Also, the Art Gallery proudly exhibits the "Art with the Stars" exhibition, a collaborative effort with Shooting Stars participants who joined forces with local Aboriginal artists to explore their cultural identities through the creation of stunning artworks. This exhibition is the culmination of eight distinct projects undertaken at six different sites, making it a testament to the diversity and creativity of the community.

For families, the Shire of Carnarvon Library and Art Gallery teamed up with the Gascoyne Early Years Network for the Children's Week Family Fun Day on Saturday. The day plans to be filled with activities, arts and crafts, and engaging experiences for children and parents alike, strengthening the sense of togetherness within the community.

Shire President Eddie Smith expressed his delight at the decade-long journey of the Library and Art Gallery, saying, "This 10-year milestone is a testament to the Shire's dedication to fostering a love of learning, art, and culture within our community. We are proud of the progress we've made, and we look forward to continuing our mission to inspire, educate, and bring people together through the Library and Art Gallery."

The Shire of Carnarvon Library and Art Gallery's 10-year celebration is not just a reflection of the past decade's accomplishments but also a glimpse into a future filled with even more educational, cultural, and artistic wonders for the people of Carnarvon.
