General
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is hiring Remote Area Management Team Leaders and Team Members in regional and remote areas across New South Wales, Northern Territory, South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia. Applications open from 23 February 2026.

A successful Census leads to better decisions, policies, and outcomes for our communities. It’s important we have the right people in the right jobs in your electorate, to make sure everyone is counted.

We’re looking for people who are passionate about their community, with local knowledge and experience working in a small team. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Remote Area Management Team Leaders lead Census work and engagement in various remote areas. They recruit, train and manage a small team to make sure everyone is counted.
  • Remote Area Management Team Members answer questions about the Census, deliver forms and work with people to complete their form. They work with their Team Leader to recruit and train field staff in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and rural sites such as farms, mining camps and national parks.
