The Shire of Carnarvon School Holiday Program was a resounding success this year, with hundreds of families and kids taking part in a range of fun and educational activities.
The program, which ran over six weeks was designed to keep kids active, engaged and entertained over the summer break. It offered a variety of activities from skateboarding workshops, art workshops, basketball, summer reading adventure at the Library, kayaking to kids shows and free movies at the Cinema.
The skateboarding workshops, led by Australia’s first Aboriginal skateboarders, Songline, were a big hit with kids learning the basics of skateboarding, safety tips and tricks to impress their friends. Meanwhile, the art workshops provided an opportunity for kids to get creative and express themselves through various forms of art.
Basketball was another popular activity, with children learning the fundamentals of the sport and Kayaking was also well received, with kids taking to the water and learning how to safely manoeuver a kayak as well as participating in fun and team building games.
Finally, the kids shows from Perth Party Time included the Jelly Kelly Show and Tragic Magic Show over three days, which were a big hit, followed by fluro discos at the Civic Centre which provided an exciting and entertaining experience for kids and families.
“We are thrilled with the response to this year’s school holiday program,” said Shire President, Eddie Smith. “It was great to see so many kids participating and having fun while learning new skills and making new friends. We’re already looking forward to the April program and hope to see more families engaged.”
The Shire was able to deliver the School Holiday Program through its own source funding with complementary funding from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
