YOUnity Program Facilitator
Timing: October School Holidays – Carnarvon
Payment: $1600 (grant funded by North Midlands Project)
The Shire of Carnarvon has successfully received grant funding to deliver the YOUnity program and is seeking a passionate and inclusive facilitator to deliver these creative sessions during the October school holidays for young people.
The YOUnity program is designed for young LGBTIQA+ people and allies, and is free to participate in. Grant-funded by the North Midlands Project and happening all across the state, this creative program brings together young voices and stories from across regional WA to create art that celebrates identity, pride, and community.
Developed with the Youth Pride Network, WA’s peak body for LGBTIQA+ young
people and in partnership with West Australia Opera, Australian Galleries and
Museums Association (AMaGA); this free-to-attend arts program consists of two
themed workshop series connecting regional LGBTIQA+ youth aged 13 - 24 through
art, music, and storytelling.
YOUnity will culminate in a major showcase during the 2026 Perth Pridefest, This will include a stunning large-scale statewide collaborative flag artwork, symbolising YOUunity across distance, and two songs composed by West Australian Opera amplifying the queer youth voice from regional WA.
About the Program
Over five sessions (two 90 minute design, and three drop-in sessions), participants will explore two key creative projects:
- Represent: Flags in Motion
Young people design and create personal flags that reflect their pride, story, and sense of identity. Individual flags are then sewn together into a large-scale collaborative artwork, symbolising unity across distance and difference.
- Our Stories in Voice
Participants create personal stories through writing, poetry, or spoken word. These stories will be sent to West Australian Opera, who will transform them into two original songs, amplifying the voices of regional queer youth.
The program includes:
- 2 x Design Studio Sessions (structured workshops with guided activities)
- 3 x Drop-In Studio Sessions (flexible creative time for participants to work on their projects)
