The Shire of Carnarvon is celebrating National Science Week 2022 with a series of fun and educational activities hosted by the Shire Library and Mayu-Mia Youth Hub.

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology that runs each year in August. It features more than 1,000 events around Australia, as an effort to spark interest and fascination in the world we live in by illuminating the functions that technology and science play in it.

As a co-located public library and art gallery, the Shire facility provides regular STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) programs and activities to support youth development and learning. These programs are offered throughout the year at the Maker’s Hub, LEGO Club, Minecraft and Book Clubs.

Building with LEGO can teach kids critical skills without them even realizing they are learning! It can spark creativity, develop problem solving skills, and explore basic STEAM concepts (plus it’s also a heap of fun!)

The 2022 school theme for National Science Week is ‘Glass: More than meets the eye’ and is based on the UN International Year of Glass.

National Science Week 2022 will run from 13-21 August. For more information on the events, please contact the Community Development Team on 9941 3727 or library.gallery@carnarvon.wa.gov.au
