Shire of Carnarvon Approves New Waterfront Development with Jetty and Boat Pens

Construction of a multi-stage development on the site of the old Police Station and Courthouse at 85 Olivia Terrace has been approved by the Shire of Carnarvon Council.

Stage One will see a four-storey structure built, consisting of 35 apartments with private balconies. Some of these dwellings will overlook the Fascine waterfront, with stunning views of Babbage and Whitlock Islands.

The development will include a private swimming pool, outdoor recreation areas and parking for 102 cars. An exciting inclusion to this development is a jetty and boat pens ranging in size from 8m to 20m in length, adjacent to the development.

Stages Two and Three were approved by the Shire of Carnarvon Council on 28 March 2023 and will take 2-4 years to complete, they will expand the site to include mixed-use components.

Provisions for commercial, retail and office tenancies will be included in Stage Two on the first two floors and there will be a covered colonnade along the Robinson Street facade, linking all major commercial and office areas.

This stage will also see a centrally located lobby developed for the offices and for the hotel which will occupy the top two storeys. Private covered car-parking areas and storage and service facilities will also be included.

The hotel will be operated by one of Australia’s premiere accommodation providers and the development achieves objectives laid out in the Community Strategic Plan 2022- 2032, a long-term strategy for the Shire of Carnarvon which aims to improve and enhance the lifestyles of residents.

The final stage aims to establish high-quality short stay apartments to provide more accommodation options in the town centre.

Shire President Eddie Smith says that the development will enhance the town by providing a focal point for residents in one of its most central locations.

“Local families built the previous Police Station and Courthouse here, and it's agreed that it’s a prime piece of real estate but also special to us” said President Smith, “So with all the different options that could be built here, this development is so exciting because it has everything in the perfect spot. It’s going to be great”

Developer Nick Di Latte is enthusiastic about the benefits the development will provide to the community and is excited about work starting.

“What we’re bringing is modern, state-of-the-art facilities, resort facilities in fact, with a large central lagoon pool, food and beverage offering, as well as a business centre. All of that together will certainly provide a new modern offering that residents can enjoy.”

“The inspiration has come from our architect Jean-Mic Perrine, he’s had a lot to do with many resorts in WA and nationally, that’s been driven by him. But its also a reflection of what you might find up in Broome and Kununurra, and Exmouth. The Mantaray’s there have central, large lagoon facilities with rooms surrounding them,” said Di Latte.
