Updates to differential rates, fees, and charges for new financial year

Published on Tuesday, 28 June 2022 at 5:17:05 PM

Updates to fees and charges occur annually during the budget process. Due to the rapid rise of inflation, an interim amendment to the schedule was approved from 4 pm June 30, 2022 until the
2023 Fees and Charges Schedule is adopted for the 2022-23 budget. No new fees and charges were proposed with the amendment.  Any new Fees and Charges will be considered by Council as part of the Budget preparation and adoption process.

Differential rates have been proposed for three groups of unimproved properties within Mining, UV Pastoral, and Horticultural. The proposed differential rates presented to Council were levied to reflect the costs associated with providing infrastructure and services to the various ratepayers affected. Levying rates is conducted to meet Council’s budget requirements in each financial year and allows Council to raise revenue needed to provide facilities, services, and infrastructure to the community at large.

Rates proposed and associated minimum payments for the 2022-23 financial year are expected to raise approximately $1,175,889, with $227,845 from Mining, $381,585 from UV Pastoral, and $566,459 from Horticultural.

The objective is to ensure there is equity in rates across different land uses. The estimate 6% increase for this year will help to partially offset inflation and is in line with previous yearly increases, with an increase of 8% in 2018-19, 6% in 2019-20, and no increase in 2020-21 due to COVID relief.
